In the coming days, there will be a few changes made to the information on the Bring Widlene Home Petition. I wanted to take a minute to explain these changes and the current scenario we face.

If you have been following along these next few points will just be a recap but if you are new to the campaign they will provide a very important timeline of events. 

• On April 12, 2019 we received a letter stating that IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) had rejected Widlene’s application for a TRP (Temporary Resident Permit). 
• Around April 24, 2019 we filed an appeal to the Federal Courts in regards to IRCC’s decision.
• Our court hearing was finally held, after delays from IRCC, on January 13, 2020.
• A decision was rendered on February 4, 2020, ruling that Widlene’s file was, unequivocally, treated unreasonably and a second look by IRCC was needed. 

When the Bring Widlene Home Campaign started we were calling on the Minister of Immigration to grant Widlene an emergency TRP visa to travel to Canada to be with her family and escape the dangers she faced daily while living as a stateless person in Dominican Republic. At that point in time the Minister of Immigration was Ahmed Hussen. As the months dragged on it became very clear that Minister Hussen had a strong personal bias against this file. Not only did he not intervene but his vindictive views on the file were passed down to the Visa officers reviewing it. 

Through every roadblock and struggle we have come up against, we have tried to convey how mistreated we were, tried to express how those in charge were abusing their power and how at the root of it all, was none other than Ahmed Hussen. 

The Bring Widlene Home support has been targeted at Hussen for years, as he was the one able to make the decisions. In November 2019, following the federal election, Trudeau appointed a new Immigration Minister. 

Hon. Marco Mendicino is now at our focus. 

Hon. Marco Mendicino now holds the key to Widlene’s future. 

Hon. Marco Mendicino has everything in his power, all while being back by the Federal Court of Canada, to step in and save Widlene from the dangers she faces and can finally reunify a family that has been fighting for way too long. 

Given this shift in power, this appeal will now be directed at Marco Mendicino. Contact information on this page will be changed.
