The lack of health and safety in disabilities....and the criminals running the provider organizations
An article by the ABC news recently noted that a man – actually the Director of Integrity Care – the organization that let Anne Marie Smith die through her alleged neglect, he has now been charged by the Police for intimidation of a key witness in Anne Marie Smith’s case. Her worker had neglected her for over a year, no moving or feeding is on manslaughter charges. Integrity Care was charged $12,000 for the crime, a paltry amount considering they let a girl die for the funding the received of hers and from NDIS would have been considerable. The director has now been charged as well.
It looks like the director of Integrity Care wanted to stop the witness being a witness and intimidated this key witness to the neglect of Anne Marie…
The article notes “Philip John Greenland, 57, of Huntfield Heights, who was a director of Ms Smith's former NDIS provider Integrity Care, has been charged with assaulting a key witness in the ongoing investigation into her death. Police allege he verbally abused and spat in the face of the woman in September. The man was also charged earlier this month with intimidating the same witness in December. He has been bailed to face court next month.”
Why would this man do such a thing? He wants his business to run even though someone died in his organizations care. Its all about money and power. This is what parents of disability children and adult children are having to deal with people of such calibre – greed and money hungry directors of care and disability organizations who are only thinking of the money and then when it looks like they might be losing it or they are caught in their crimes of neglect or money exploitation they react like this attacking those who would stand up for the vulnerable or for their own disability children and adult children.
These kinds of business people running privatised disabilities sector, so lucrative now – under the NDIS - are like criminals looking to make a quick buck, or millions out of our children who come into their care. Do not trust the smooth-talking CEOs, directors, managers and even many of their workers, there is only money on their mind and mind on their money.
Anne Marie Smith, who had cerebral palsy, is not even alive anymore and the provider still continues to intimidate those who are standing up for justice for her and the terrible things she went through alone dying because the carer had no heart, and maybe was a psychopath letting her die like that and yet being a grandmother who still babysat her own grandchildren! How could she do that to Anne Marie? we all exclaim…because there are no laws, cctv mandatory cameras, or safety procedures to protect those like Anne Marie and so the criminals who want to make out of it do and if they want to hurt someone, or neglect them and not feed them they can unless we make them accountable.
Where is health and safety then in disabilities if they will not even set up cameras to protect them or catch those who hurt our vulnerable and non verbal? Yet everyone else has them in schools, universities, libraries and shops...why not our vulnerable?
The neglect of the vulnerable that occurs in disabilities and is allowed to because society dehumanizes those with disabilities and the government endorses it by lack of protections, safety and laws of the land that ignore the vulnerable… even animals get more attention than the blight of humans in disabilities...
Lets face it the death of Anne Marie Smith was due to gross lack of health and safety, or even meeting human basic needs by the support worker now charged with manslaughter for letting Ann Marie die from neglect of up to over a year, and the provider organization the worked for – Integrity Care a measley fine for letting someone die in their care. Disgusting. NDIS should also be sued for this. I hope Ann Maries family will do that they deserve it for not really looking after the very vulnerable at all.
There was no one person or team checking on health and safety for that poor woman or to even see if she was being looked after properly. NDIS needs to send actual people out to see if someone is being looked after, not phone calls, not just internet. Hands on humans. The same with assaults and abuse, a person should be sent in in person to see what is happening. In fact even better of the NDIS commission went in person with the police to see what is happening in a disability group home etc since police are limited in their understanding of disabilities.
It appears many of the office workers at the NDIS quality commission know very little of the needs of disabilities people and children and what harm can occur to them. I have told them so many times we need the cctv cameras to get evidence, after they say there is no evidence without cameras to do anything about the assault on my son, well make them have cameras I retort. The person on the other end of the line, says they are allowed cameras but we cannot make them have cameras, we prefer retraining in protocols, the retraining is not working I say, well you have stuck parents in a trap and their children will always be hurt I say. Including my son. Things need to change.
