Empathy what empathy? The NDIS to care or not to care ? That is the question...Reynolds minister for NDIS is contradicting the point of Disabilities care by wanting no empathy!
One of the latest articles on Linda Reynolds the new minister for NDIS (Luke H Gomes May 18th 2021 The Guardian Newspaper) noted Reynolds said that the NDIS was too reliant on the natural empathy of the public servants…??? The fact that Reynolds herself was shown for having no empathy with her staffer Brittany Higgs when Reynolds was Minister of Defence recently moved sideways to disabilities, makes it ironic that she would now ‘accuse’ the NDIS of relying on natural empathy something which is not natural in her makeup and lacking in her relationships with those that worked with the government in parliament. As if having empathy was wrong, or a bad attribute – when it is an attribute vital to human survival in relationships and resilience. Is her heart stone? Money has a way of doing that. Take all their salaries off of the politicians and they may not be so arrogant or hard on others. Do unto others how you want to be treated. Reynolds has a mental episode after being told to account for how she treated her staffer and said she was having a break and did not turn up for the press conference. Different when your life is hard or if you struggle isn’t it? The point is they haven’t and they don’t – Scott Morrison who never punishes his ministers or steps them down…just gives them better and better high paid jobs.
This woman, Reynolds, has shown no empathy to others particularly Brittany Higgs, her own young staffer who was raped at the Ministers office in Canberra one night, and whom Reynolds did not offer any comfort or help, when she found out, and then called her a ‘lying cow’ for coming forward about the incident bravely. Reynolds then had to retract the statement and I do not vouch for any sincerity on her part. Attacking the victim not supporting Higgs at all. These politicians are despicable. Now t with Reynolds as the new NDIS minister, not much of a change from Stuart Robert who had also worked in defence, and had no empathy either – why would he? He was used to shooting people not helping them. He was a military officer.
These robotic type people, with no empathy in their bones (a lacking in empathy childhood or just a narcissistic selfish nature?) plan to have independent assessors assessing if the most vulnerable in society should have help or not?! Probably bank managers money on their minds and minds on their money. No one with any knowledge of a disability person’s needs or struggles, no one who is trained in disabilities. Oh no that would be too empathetic then too caring, too doing the right thing by the vulnerable.
It has echoes of the Aged Care where the guy in charge of the Aged care NSW house in Penrith where 24 old people died was a bank manager who knew nothing of Aged Care needs. His mind was on the money no doubt too. That’s why the old people died catching covirt, and stuck with the healthy it spread and killed them, because he refused to move them to hospital or let families move their elderly parents to hospital threatening an $11,000 fine if they did. I would not have listened – your mother is your mother – get her out of there. Do not trust those non transparent conniving individuals who run aged care or disability facilities!
An article about a little girl, 9 year old Eliza Tape, who took part in a dummy run of trials for the coming ‘independent assessors’ (Sophia McGrane The Guardian 17 May 2021) was told by the assessors, that even though she was in a wheel chair and had brittle bones, that she had no issues with mobility - defies belief – she is in a wheel chair! What does that mean ? You don’t have to be a brain surgeon or highly trained in disabilities to know that means she is not mobile. Duh. She cannot walk, she cannot move without the chair. What are the assessors? Stupid or something?
If we need independent Assessors it should be for the Providers of care and organizations such as day programs and respite accommodation – we need independent assessors to regulate these places and any incidents of harm to our children and adult children who get injured and harmed that’s where we need independent assessors – ones who are not on the side of the NDIS but judge what truly happens in the providers domains. They are only investigated by the NDIS investigating itself with the Quality and Safety Commission not independent at all but part of the NDIS which does not check what is going on and does not remain impartial leaning to the side of the Providers. In other words it is a farce investigating yourself – not independently -when you only care about yourself and how much money you make why would you uncover the truth of what happens to those in your organizations care? The NDIS Commission are a joke in regards to giving our children quality help and protection in these places where Providers make their money, and with no regard for when harm is done to our children by Providers.
The providers themselves act like the Corporations who do the usual cover up when a serious incident of harm occurs – they do not say the truth or tell it like it is – they cover the worker (s) who hurt our children and the organization and say they don’t know, never will over and over what happened like a broken record. The NDIS is broken in regard to how they treat humans who are vulnerable – they need more empathy not less miss don’t give a damn! Fair go - give me a break Linda.
