Congressman Kweisi Mfume responded to my email that I sent inquiring about the safety protocols for children while going through a custody case. 

If the mandatory annual reconsideration of custody was set in place for custody cases, this issue that my fiancée is having with her children's father, could have been avoided. The court system could have switched custody back to her.

4 months after the father received full custody, he started paying his rent late and unfortunately, the summer of 2022, he was evicted. He never petitioned the court to modify the custody in favor of mom. Yet, he used the court order as a show of power. 

It is my hope that we can make some changes to the family court and make sure they're actually doing what is in the best interest of the children.
