The library is an important local facility serving a wide area. It is not just about being able to loan books, other services such as computers and children's activities are well used. Mothers of young children will be inconvenienced by travelling further afield to access services and many won't attempt a journey on public transport to visit the library. I found the library shortly after having my baby and it was a route to opening up the local community for me. I was able to loan books for myself and my daughter. I met other mothers and as a result discovered the other baby and toddler activities locally, all through the library. At a time when I needed friendship and had little money it was a real lifesaver. Surestart centres have already been cut back to a minimum and the library is now the only community facility in Northenden. It is particularly galling that a few days after announcing the latest cuts it is also announced that the Council, as one of the owners of Manchester Airport, is purchasing Stanstead Airport. Please sign the petition to help save the only community facility in Northenden.
