Mailed Signatures to 7 Office Bearers of The Bar Council(s) of India & Delhi

Dear Friends, Thankyou for signing the petition. In addition to forwarding the signatures to email addresses of 18 Office Bearers of The Bar Council(s) of India and Delhi, we mailed physical copies to 7 Officers. Hope this will help them to arrive at a decision that will restore people's faith in the Judicial system ! Following letter was enclosed. Respected Sir, I am writing this letter to you in regards to the comments made by lawyers Mr. ML Sharma and Mr. AK Singh in the BBC Documentary – India’s Daughter. As you know, the situation of rape victims and their families is damaging because of the severe social consequences in addition to physical and mental stress they go through. Even in such unfortunate situations, when the victim families are knocking the doors of courts for Justice, how fair is it for the “educated” lawyers whose job is to protect law to publicly malign the victim’s character in the guise of defending the accused ? “In our society, we never allow our girls to come out from the house after 6:30 or 7:30 or 8:30 in the evening with any unknown person.” “If you put a diamond (woman) on the street, certainly a dog will take it. You can’t stop it” - ML Sharma’s comments from the documentary. If this is happening to India’s Daughter whose case has been a sensation all over the world, the very woman Nirbhaya on whose name the esteemed Supreme Court has created laws to protect women, how can the mothers, sisters and daughters of India be assured of Justice? Not only Nirbhaya. In the documentary, Mr. Sharma and Mr. Singh publicly objectified women as things of pleasure on whom men have complete control including honor killing! “I would most certainly take this sort of sister or daughter to my farmhouse and in front of my entire family I would put petrol on her and set her alight" – AK Singh’s comments from the documentary I came across the following picture in The Bar Council of India’s website - [Picture removed by change.org. It says: "Justice has always evoked ideas of equality, of proportion of compensation. In short, justice is another name of liberty, equality and fraternity”. If this is true, can Justice be delivered by the courts comprising of lawyers with barbaric thoughts, with no belief in equality, freedom and fraternity? I have attached signatures of 7,500+ fellow patrons who signed the petition on change.org in a hope that The Bar Council understands the importance of protecting people’s faith in the system and reprimand Mr. ML Sharma and Mr. AK Singh for their statements.
