Hello everyone. A few years ago, you helped bring Abyan to safety here in Australia. Now, I need your help once again, to find justice for another refugee.

Rakib Khan fled Bangladesh at 21 to seek protection because he was gay. Instead, he was dumped by our government on Nauru. As a result he was forced to live in fear within the Australian run detention centre. He was harassed humiliated and beaten on Nauru as a result of his sexual preferences. Instead of protecting him, Australia put him at greater risk of homophobic violence on an Island where same-sex attraction is not tolerated.

Rakib got sick and died on the tarmac waiting to be medically evacuated from Nauru to Australia, and his grieving family still has no idea how or why he died.

His sick mother wants to know why her young son ended up dying at 24 under our watch. Her son, Rakib's brother, often contacts me. He tells me that his mother is scared of dying before knowing what happened to Rakib.

Hannah Ryan of Buzzfeed has exposed Rakib's last hours, which make harrowing reading. Whistleblowers have described serious failures in his medical care and treatment that is at odds with the official reports. You can read more about Rakib’s last hours in this five-part series.

This is a case of a dying mother begging the Australian Government to intervene so she can find out how her young son died before she goes to her own grave. She wants the Australian Government to hold an enquiry to get to the truth.

The Australian people deserve an explanation for the death of this gentle soul that happened under our government’s watch.

Rakib's mother deserves to know how her son died.

Please join us to demand that our government call a parliamentary or senate enquiry into Rakib Khan's death.
