Today I spoke with the brave young woman who you helped by demanding that our leaders allow her to receive urgent medical treatment in Australia. For someone who has had to endure a sexual assault on Nauru and then 12 weeks isolated with little or no support from authorities this is a huge relief. She is now in Australia and she’s asked me to thank all of you who signed the Change.org petition for your support. You made a real difference to her well-being! We will continue to monitor the situation and to fight for the treatment and care she requires. Sadly it’s not over because violence and sexual abuse are endemic on Nauru and this afternoon the Save the Children offices on Nauru were raided by the Nauruan police force in what appears to be an effort to shut down whistle-blowers.
