GREENS STAND UP FOR PATIENT ACCESS RIGHTS - GREENS MOTION WILL GO TO A VOTE IN THE SENATE ON 23 MARCH 2017
Feb 14, 2017 — Great news ! Yesterday, Senator Richard Di Natale stood up for the doctor-patient relationship and for the rights of patients with life threatening conditions to be afforded immediate access to cannabis. Senator Di Natale registered a motion to disallow the Government's unjust amendments to the Therapeutic Goods Regulation. If these amendments are not blocked on 23 March, all patients with life threatening conditions across Australia will be DENIED IMMEDIATE AND FAST-TRACKED ACCESS to cannabis, THC and other cannabis medicines under Category A.
All Senators in the Greens Party have given their full support to the motion to disallow. The Greens now need a majority vote in the Senate to stop the Government's discriminatory policy from becoming law across Australia. It's now up to the other Senators. If the other Senators do not VOTE YES TO DISALLOW on 23 March - terminal and seriously ill patients across Australia will need to use Category B which can take months as the doctor needs TGA Category B and state approval.
PLEASE ASK YOUR SENATOR TO VOTE TO DISALLOW THE GOVERNMENT'S UNJUST AND DISCRIMINATORY AMENDMENTS AND STOP THIS CRUEL AND HEARTLESS POLICY FROM BECOMING LAW ACROSS AUSTRALIA
We have put the link below to the list of all Senators. We will continue to lobby the other Senators right up until the 23 March but also need your help so please call your Senator to day and ask them their position on patient access rights and ask them to vote to disallow these unjust amendments. No patient should have to wait for their doctor to go through 2 levels of government and wait months on end to access their medicine, but to deny patients with terminal and life threatening conditions the right to have urgent immediate access is just unconscionable.
We want to give a huge thank you to all the Senators in the Greens and to Richard's staff for their support, and a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this important human rights campaign. Please keep sharing the petition. We will keep everyone posted with further updates.
