Condemn Filipino President Duterte's summary executions for alleged drug offences
The issue
At least 300 people have been shot dead by police and vigilante groups since Filipino President Rodrogo Duterte sanctioned summary executions earlier this month, as part of a 'crackdown' on illegal drugs in the Philippines.
During his presidential campaign, the 71-year-old vowed to kill more than 100,000 alleged criminals and dump their bodies in Manila Bay within six months of taking office.
Since then, Duterte has promised large cash bounties and a medal for vigilantes who shoot dead drug dealers.
This has been followed by a wave of executions across the country.
Summary executions for any offence treats human life with contempt and should be condemned. Silence from Australia on this issue would effectively condone Duterte's actions.
