Calling Australians...

Hi Folks, We're up to nearly 4000 signatures at present - thanks for a fantastic effort to share and spread the word from everyone. There's been a noticeable uptick in the number of comments from Australian citizens signing this petition, which is exactly what we're after. The key point to any Australian citizens interested in this topic is that there is absolutely no contradiction between a person holding a very conservative view on migration, fully supporting all the other changes proposed by the Government and STILL signing this petition! What rules are implemented for new arrivals going forward is no one else's business but Australia's. Our petition is just about process and fairness for people already in Australia, not telling Australia how its laws should look. Our hope is that any reasonable Australian anywhere on the political spectrum can see that it is both logical and fair for the Government to provide exemptions (or 'grandfathering') for anyone already in the country as a Permanent Resident. The same rationale could, in many cases, be applied to other working visa holders (e.g. 457 holders), hence why our petition asks that the Government also consider the same arguments as they relate to those folk. Two things you can do to help if you're interested: 1) Share this petition with you friends, colleagues etc and ask them to share it in turn. Please target Australians in particular. 2) Click on the red "Promote this Petition" box on the right side of the petition screen and follow the instructions. We are aiming to contact several MPs to discuss this very specific issue - having a decent number of signatories to this petition will truly help us emphasise the weight of sentiment backing up our points. Showing this petition empowers us with real credibility and gravitas in any conversations. So every signature on here really is important and useful.
