Making psychiatric diagnostic reports obligatory and allowing them to be appealed.

Making psychiatric diagnostic reports obligatory and allowing them to be appealed.
The Issue
A psychiatric diagnosis is a life changing event for most people who receive one, and those close to them. It was in my case. Afterwards, I immersed myself in understanding as much as I could about psychiatry. As a former scientist it is striking how unscientific the diagnostic system is in psychiatry. It is also striking how protected in law their practitioners are. Mental illnesses exist if a consultant psychiatrist forms the opinion that they do. Although it is good clinical practice to record the information on which these opinions are based, there is no obligation to do so. People can be deprived of their liberty and forcibly medicated based on these opinions. Most strikingly of all, once this opinion has been formed, it cannot be appealed. It will only change over time if the opinions of the person who made it (or their colleagues) change. You, the receiver, may never be able to find out from the records how it was made in the first place, and you cannot appeal it even if you can prove that it was wrong. This is clearly unjust. The goal of this petition is to address this.
