Thanks to everyone who has supported and signed this petition. The response has been overwhelming with more than 400 people from the area having signed so far (both online + hard-copy petition). I have also been door knocking in the area and placed copies of the petition with local businesses throughout Willetton and have been met with great support for this safety measure. But, this is not enough please help me make this a reality by voting for me, Parry Kahlon, in the upcoming City of Canning council elections and let's not wait for a tragedy to happen before addressing this issue. Many issues such as this are often put on the back burner by the council and it is necessary to have someone part of the council who will make sure that this issue is resolved. My children have attended local schools in the area and it is unthinkable that their safety would not be considered a priority, so I share the concern of the parents and local residents (examples of which are extracted below). I urge you all to vote in the up-coming elections and to urge your neighbours, friends and fellow parents to vote. Together we can make this a reality and ensure that the safety of our children is not compromised. Let's not wait for a tragedy to happen before taking action. Concerns expressed by parents and local residents: • I have seen a high school child hit by a speeding car on Pine Tree Gully Rd.They often speed up down that hill. Also the primary crossing lady was very badly hurt by a speeding car years ago. • I have visited this school many times and it is unthinkable that there is not adequate pedestrian access to cross this road. Students in a mob won't care and will just go. Ex teacher. • Signed...this is long overdue! Over a thousand students crossing Pinetree Gully Road twice daily among cars, trucks, buses and bicycles is an absolute nightmare! I'm surprised there has not been fatalities here • I'm signing this petition because the traffic at this particular area is an absolute nightmare and very unsafe for children trying to cross the road getting to and from school. It's only a matter of time before tragedy strikes. Let's prevent that from happening!! • Children's lives are precious and this seems like a no brainer. Traffic lights should have been instead years ago. • I used to live in this area and I'm an ex student of willetton high and know how insane it gets at start and end times of the school day! • This is such a large school and to see these students coming out of the school to cross this road is a bit scary. Drivers just go of their own accord and students that wonder busy chatting etc. if there were lights the students would obey them and so would the drivers. I wouldn't want my child to be the first one hurt.
