Hi everyone,
First, thank you so much for signing the petition to make UK cinemas accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. Your support means the world, and we’re already making a difference together. But we need to keep the pressure on to ensure real change happens!
Here’s what you can do next to help us achieve this goal:
1. Share the Petition
Spread the word by sharing the petition with your friends, family, and on social media. The more signatures we get, the louder our message will be!
• Facebook: Share the petition in groups, pages, or on your timeline.
• Twitter: Tweet about the petition using the hashtag #AccessibleCinemas
• Instagram: Share the petition in your stories or feed, and tag cinemas or relevant organizations.
2. Contact Your Local MP
We’ve already written to our local MP, but you can make your voice heard too! MPs play an important role in pushing for policy change.
• Find your MP here: WriteToThem.com
• Use this template to write a message:
“I’m writing to urge you to support changes in UK cinemas to improve accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. This includes introducing personal captioning devices and offering more subtitled screenings. These changes would ensure inclusivity and align with the Equality Act 2010.”
3. Contact Cinema Chains Directly
We need cinemas like Odeon, Cineworld, and Vue to adopt captioning devices and increase subtitled screenings. Let’s make sure they know we care about this issue!
You can email them directly or reach out on social media with a polite but firm request for better accessibility.
4. Reach Out to the UK Cinema Association
The UK Cinema Association (UKCA) is an industry body that works with cinemas to improve accessibility. You can contact them directly to ask for more frequent subtitled screenings and the adoption of captioning devices.
• UKCA Email: info@cinemauk.org.uk
• Phil Clapp, CEO: phil.clapp@cinemauk.org.uk
• James Connor, Senior Policy and Projects Manager: james.connor@cinemauk.org.uk
5. Share Your Story
If you or someone you know has faced challenges in cinemas due to lack of accessibility, share your experience with us. Personal stories can make a huge impact in bringing attention to this issue. Comment on the petition or reach out to us directly.
6. Follow Us for Updates
Stay engaged by following updates on this petition. As we continue to build support, we’ll keep you posted on any progress and next steps.
We’ve made great progress, but we still need your help to keep this movement growing. Let’s continue to work together and make cinemas more inclusive for everyone. Thank you again for your support!
With gratitude,
Rishabh Nirula
