Make the Victim Protection Act Work in Kenya
The Issue
Every victim deserves to be heard, protected, and supported. Every survivor deserves justice.
Kenya has a law that protects victims of crime and human rights violations: the Victim Protection Act, 2014. Yet many victims still struggle to access information, support, legal assistance, rehabilitation, compensation, and meaningful participation in the justice process.
Rights in law must become reality in practice.
We, Haki Kwa Wote Campaign Team, Call on the Government of Kenya to:
1. Fully implement the Victim Protection Act 2014 so victims can access the rights and protections guaranteed by law.
2. Adequately fund and strengthen the Victim Protection Board to coordinate and deliver victim support services across Kenya.
3. Operationalize and fund the Victim Protection Trust Fund to provide compensation, rehabilitation, and other support for eligible victims.
Why This Matters
Justice is not only about holding offenders accountable. It is also about ensuring victims are heard, informed, protected, supported, and able to access meaningful remedies.
Victims should not have to fight another battle to receive the support and protection they are already entitled to under the law.
Our Call
We urge the National Assembly, Senate, Attorney-General, and Victim Protection Board to take immediate action to fully operationalize the Victim Protection Act, 2014.
Stand with victims and Survivors. Stand for dignity. Stand for justice.

Make victim protection a reality, not just a promise in the law
