Hi everyone!
It's been a while since this campaign was launched to make the Tuckwell scholarship fair. And something just happened that shows why this is so important.
The incoming cohort of Tuckwell scholars for next year have been announced. Each one of them is deserving of the opportunity to have a world-class education at the Australian National University. The data representing their background is also cause for concern.
40% of these incoming scholars come from the top 1% of schools nation-wide according to income. 68% are from private schools, and 84% are from the top socio-economic quartile.
The way Tuckwell scholars is selected is not working. It shuts out working class students and doesn't give them a fair chance.
That's why I'm so happy we have nearly 600 signatures attached to this petition. If you can share it with just one friend, that would be amazing.
I have been told that this petition will be tabled at the next scholarship Board meeting at the end of this year. Until then, let's build the petition numbers and keep up the fight.
