Make Sign Language a Universal Human First Language
The Issue
Nearly 466 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss and many of these individuals use sign language as their primary form of communication according to statistics from the World Health Organization. Unfortunately, sign language is not universally recognized or taught, creating unnecessary barriers in communication and limiting opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing community. This petition aims to make sign language a globally recognized and taught first language. Recognition and instruction in sign language will promote inclusivity, bridge communication gaps, and facilitate equal opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing. Sign this petition to champion for sign language as a universal first language, and join us in fostering a more inclusive world.
