Well having written to yet another Secretary of State for Education to no avail, I'm resting my hopes with his Snr Parliamentary Assistant who took some time today to speak with me, making no promises of course other than to speak with Mr Hinds soon to see what his thoughts are on the subject of overpriced uniforms. Lets hope he has more thoughts on the subject than his last 3 predecessors! As for the Children's Commissioner, Anne Longfield's office well she replied .......... Thank you for getting in touch with the Children’s Commissioner’s Office. The issue you raise regarding school uniform cost is important, and is a concern that we take seriously. This year we launched an important ongoing piece of work about childhood vulnerability. This framework identifies and quantifies a number of situations and experiences that can lead to a child being considered as vulnerable - as part of our work moving forward, we plan to expand the framework to look at material deprivation. I envisage that the issue of ‘hidden’ costs associated with education (e.g. uniform prices) will form a significant part of this work. It may, therefore, be the case that we get back in touch later in the year in order to detail your experiences in relation uniform prices. Many thanks once again for getting in touch, I hope this email has been helpful in explaining how we plan to include your concerns in our future work....... Then there is the 1 and only MP that I know of who has raised this matter Sarah Jones MP for Croydon Central who was meant to be meeting with Nick Gibb of the DfE in Septemebr last year to discuss the Governments broken promises over uniform legislation/costs, well I have written to her 3 times, tried calling too, to no avail so far, to find out how that meeting went and if she has any further plans to take the matter more into the public domain! These people don't like to engage with people out of their constituencies that's for sure! That's it so far folks, will post further if anything actually happens or if we get any sort of open and meaningful dialogue from the powers that be, bear in mind the Conservatives promised in 2015 that they were going to do something about the rising cost of uniforms, I will keep pestering and I urge you to do the same with regards to your local MP's take the bits you agree with from our petition and write an e-mail or letter but do pester your MP the more of you that do that the more likely 1 of them may sit up and do something!
