* Peaceful protest. 20th June, 5.30-8.30. Parliament Square, London

Hi to all 6,404 of you!

Firstly, thank you so much for signing our petition, and sharing it. We’ve been blown away by all the support and encouragement. We’ve also been shocked by the stories of street harassment that we’ve heard since the petition started. So many people have come to us with their accounts of harassment. What stands out from many of them is that it often:

A) starts incredibly young
B) impacts mental health
C) affects day-to-day lives

Just today a woman shared a story about the way in which fat women are shamed and harassed from an incredibly young age: “I've been bullied and harassed since I was a young teenager. Simply walking to school I would have the same group of boys throw things at me, follow me and call me names. I have been told to lose weight you fat whale.”

Secondly, We would encourage you to follow our Instagram @OurStreetsNow, Twitter and Facebook @NowStreets, to learn more about what we’re up to, from our #myfirsttime series to support from celebrities like Jameela Jamil and Munroe Bergdorf who signed out petition saying ‘I’m TIRED of feeling unsafe’.

Our most exciting news is that we’re holding a protest in collaboration with catcallsofldn calling on the government to take action against the commonplace and normalised street harassment of women* and girls.  Our peaceful protest in Parliament Square will be on the 20th June (A WEEK TODAY) from 5.30-8.30. It would be amazing to have as many of you attend as possible.

Here is the link to the event on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/2290765067801839/

Please continue to share the petition - with your friends, your neighbours, your family and anyone else. Together I do truly believe we can make street harassment illegal in the UK, but we need you to help us get there.

We want to get this the maximum number of signatures before the protest - share it today so we can continue to make this spread.

We hope to meet you at the protest on the 20th June, 5.30 till 8.30 at Parliament Square, London.

If you have any questions/comments/queries please do feel free to reach out to us: ourstreetsnow@hotmail.com

From Gemma and Maya.

*By women we refer to all those who self-identify as women and/or those who are perceived to be women and/or those who experience misogyny.
