Women in New Zealand have struggled with the availability of period products in public spaces.  This is known as 'period poverty',  when women struggle to afford period products or struggle with limited access to period products. A packet of tampons cost $5.50, so take that and multiply it over 480 periods and women are out of pocket $2640. Period products are a basic necessity that many go without due to the price, so having free access to period products in public bathrooms will relieve women of this financial burden.
