We, the residents of NYCHA's TAFT Houses are requesting that our buildings be maintained, cleanly, safe and liveable. It is vital that we receive new lobby doors with coherent locks and intercoms to keep trespassers and criminal wrong doers out. We'd like to decrease the amount of criminal activity occurring within our buildings as NYCHA has the highest crime rates here in NYC and having criminals come to our buildings with criminal intent in addition to those residents who act off criminal intent further heighten criminal activity. In addition to further our safety camera's, lobby attendants/security and greater community policing at NYCHA developments would further ensure our safety. Our elevators are frequently out of order or malfunctioning risking injuries to users and keeping barriers for our disabled population to even enter or leave the premises violating the Americans with Disability Act as NYCHA allows these existing and continued barriers. We have pests and rodents yet there is no mandatory pest control and extermination regularly to control and/or eliminate this problem. Pest control is a joint effort should a handful of tenants receive extermination service yet pests and rodents still enter their apartments because other tenants are neglecting their apartment conditions that tenant who is trying to maintain the apartment should not suffer. Pest and rodent control should be mandatory ! Heat and hot water are utilities that come with every rented NYC apartment thus should be provided efficiently and continously if our rent is being provided. Apartment and building maintenance should immensely be taken into account. Housing Assistant's at TAFT Houses frequently demand rent payment if paid even a day late however have no consideration regarding repairs and often neglect what has to be done. Tenants pay rent and when the management office is contacted to clean up a spill it doesn't get mopped it remains for a slip and fall. It also appears that our rent doesn't even entitle us to speak with a manager or super when we have a concern as the staff are always "unavailable". However staff are available for non payment proceedings at court to collect little monies for rent and do not take repairs or concerns as seriously. We would appreciate if all concerns were taken as seriously as our rent and monies. We ask that our buildings receive repairs, regular maintenance, maintain it's cleanliness and most importantly safety.
