Petition updateMake NJ Transit Follow the Law: Demand Public Hearings on Fare Increases

Call into NJT Board Vote - Tonight (Wed 4/15) @ 6 PM

Please call the NJ Transit Board of Directors meeting TONIGHT at 6 PM by dialing 1-800-346-7359 and using Conference Entry Code: 701939.  Tell the NJT board you oppose the fare hike proposal (3% eff. 7/1/26 and 3% more every July going forward), especially since the agency has not held the hearings required by law (N.J.S.A. 27:25-8d(2)) in over two years. A plan to raise fares again (and over and over in future years) without the dedicated public hearings required by law is unconscionable and at odds with Gov. Sherrill's ostensible commitment to improving the ridership experience.

Given how unreliable the service has become and the difficulties riders face in the coming months (e.g., more cancelations and delays, being locked out of New York Penn Station on World Cup match days, steep ticket prices for World Cup rail service, and Portal North Cutover schedule reductions), the Board of Directors of owes it to riders to follow the law and hold 10 dedicated fare hearings before this fare increase and every fare increase in future years.

Again, since we're facing the prospect of automatic future fare increases not just this year, but every year going forward (3% per year) without hearings, it is critical that we lobby the board TONIGHT to vote down any fare hike proposal unless and until they hold the 10 public hearings required by law.

Agenda and details from NJT:

“Each speaker will have three (3) minutes to provide comments.”

“TELEPHONE: Speakers who pre-register and participate by telephone will follow the in-person speakers. Telephone participants who did not pre-register in advance, and queue to speak, will have their comments taken on a first-come-first-serve basis thereafter.

Speakers participating by telephone may begin calling in at 5:30 P.M. to check in with the call proctor.

"Once checked in, participants can press *1 to enter the queue to provide public comments. There will be a brief tone to indicate you have successfully entered the queue. Anyone joining the meeting will be on a 'Music Hold' prior to the meeting."

Thanks for your support!
