I believe that it's time for all Windows and Mac users to make the switch to Linux. This isn't just a matter of personal preference; it's about taking a stand against the domination of big tech companies like Microsoft and Apple, which are pushing out products that are increasingly filled with AI technologies at the expense of user control and quality. 

For years, we have been strapped to these operating systems, watching as updates become more intrusive, systems become slower, and our personal data is monetized without true consent. Anyone who has ever experienced a Windows update at the worst possible moment or faced the limitations of a Mac's closed ecosystem knows this frustration all too well.

Linux offers an open-source alternative that is customizable, community-driven, and free from the corporate agendas that prioritize profit over user experience. By switching to Linux, we're not just choosing a different operating system— we're advocating for technological innovation that prioritizes control, privacy, and transparency.

I acknowledge that for some users the barrier to entry might be higher for Linux than for other operating systems. But having beginner-friendly Linux distros like Mint preinstalled on more devices, removes a huge barrier to entry and helps disprove the myth that Linux is only for tech-people.

We call on major retailers to stock more laptops with Linux already installed. And have government procurement to prioritize Linux over other operating systems.

2. Government procurement departments at local, state, and national levels to prioritize Linux and open-source solutions when purchasing computers and software for public institutions, ensuring transparency, security, and responsible use of taxpayer funds while avoiding vendor lock-in.

Together we can create market pressure that forces Microsoft and Apple to reconsider their increasingly intrusive practices, showing them that users will seek alternatives when their autonomy is threatened. We can promote a more free, secure, and diverse open-source technology ecosystem with no single big company in control.
