My son was beaten and murdered in November 2019. Three men were involved, and one man fired his gun and killed my son. Neighbors called 911 dispatch to report that they heard shots were fired. A police officer went to his neighborhood, drove around and spoke to a man who was walking his dog. The man pointed to my son’s home where the shooting took place in the front yard, and said he saw it. The officer drove by, but never got out and knocked on my son’s door, or the neighbors’ doors to see if anyone needed medical assistance. Meanwhile, my son was inside dying from the gun shot wound. I believe officers must investigate more thoroughly when they receive calls of “shots fired”. My family was shocked when we find out about it in the court they didn’t tell us we had right to know everything from the begging,but they kept it secrets,and our pain made worse to find out that an officer was outside my son’s home while he lay inside dying. I believe policy must change requiring officers to take more actions when investigating and certainly knock on doors. Each gun shot needs to be taken very seriously to prevent someone from dying and so people know their community cares enough to investigate. A life being taken is a big deal.
