A man beats dogs who sit in front of his house. The disturbing part is that the man has encroached the public street and made his property (staircase)on it and then he has the audacity to beat the dogs saying that they dirty his house. According to the reporter he has already killed four dogs.

Illegal encroachments is quite common in India. And the sad part is that the people who encroach have no guilt. They think it's their right.

Most of the municipal corporations in India are busy making registeration of pet dogs compulsory with fines and penalties on owners for non registration. Some have even come out with apps for lodging complaints if a pet dog poops and the owner fails to clean it.
Wonder is India a dog friendly country? Many pet owners buy breed dogs not for love for dogs but for status symbol. And then they abandon them when the dog gets old or sick. Many don't even know how to treat their dogs with love.
The majority of the Indians are under the impression that the stray Indian dogs are all rabid. They are dirty and diseased.
The dog rules 2001 which talks about the ABC program and makes sterilization and immunization of stray dogs the only solution to control dog population is still greek and latin to many. People from the poshest locality to the slums of India indulge in relocation and killing of dogs to get rid of dog population and canine rabies.
When will the state govts and the municipal corporations work on real issues?
We need policies which encourage dog adoption and not discourages people from dog adoption
We need systematic and humane implementation of the ABC program and not random and inhuman approach with which the program is being run in most parts of India
We need amendment in animal laws to make them stronger
And lastly we need implementation of these laws. No Indian should be above law.
Unfortunately for many law is a joke.......they think they are above law.......unfortunately that is the truth for many especially when the law is concerning animals and their rights.
