It seems Mumbai Municipal Corporation is ready to make their city rabies free by killing canines. Well that's the quickest and easiest way to make the country canine rabies free. Shame on such state governments and their animal welfare officers and the NGOs who are involved in this kind of cruel and insane initiative.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation few years back had put most obnoxious and misleading rabies awareness hoardings for three consecutive years. The hoardings did not in anyway control stray dog population or made canines of Delhi rabies free but it did create hatred and fear in the minds of the people of Delhi against stray dogs. The after effects of it can be witnessed even today.

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the animal welfare NGO Utkarsh have gone way too far in creating this most idiotic and insane awareness about rabies and are picking up dogs as if the Mumbai dogs are all rabid.

Ideally the van of the NGO should have something nice and animal friendly written on it. Like "animal ambulance" or "dog van for ABC program" etc. But instead on Utkarsh van it's written "Make Maharashtra rabies free by 2025" and a picture of the dog is also there on the van. The people who got out of this venom spitting van were the cruelest creatures. They picked up a dog with an iron rod with sharp edges which cut the dog's neck. The dog was bleeding and yelling and its caregivers shouting and asking for mercy. But these NGO cum Municipal workers were doing what they had been asked by their bosses. The NGO Utkarsh, Mumbai commissioner, mayor and the councillors of Mumbai need to know these facts:

1 The stray dogs of India are the Indian breed dogs who are not rabid. A bite or a scratch by a normal, healthy dog will not cause rabies to humans

2 India can be made rabies free by vaccinating stray dogs and by sterilizing them and adopting them and giving them homes. And not by treating them as filth and picking them in cruel manner.

3 By writing on the dog van "make Maharashtra rabies free by 2025" with a dog's Pic on it the van is misleading people by making them believe that the stray dogs are rabid. And so it's better they be removed from the streets. By removing them the state can be made rabies free. This is utter nonsense.

Well don't know about rabies free but if this death van and the Utkarsh NGO are allowed to run any further then the day is not far when the whole Mumbai will become stray dog free. Some killed by the NGO and the rest killed by the people of Mumbai. Just because they will be made to believe that all the stray dogs on the streets of Mumbai are rabid.

How can people working in the animal welfare in the govt sector allow such negative and misleading awareness about rabies and stray dogs happen in India? How can an NGO working for animals run such a van and allow their workers to treat dogs in such a hostile manner?

After looking at the video and what is written on the van it's quite clear that the Mumbai city will soon become canine free.

May be the van picked up the dog for sterilization but what did the common man of Mumbai witnessed? Hostility towards stray dog. And why? Because he may be rabid. So now the common man will think that every dog on the street of Mumbai is rabid. And what will follow next is just unimaginable. Killing of innocent dogs......for no fault of theirs.

The World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) have the target of making the world canine rabies free by 2030. But the Maharashtra govt is in a hurry to achieve this target by 2025.

Kill all the canines and the state will automatically become rabies free. Much before 2025.

A dog was dragged on a road with his limbs tied with an iron rope till it died. Most likely he was tied to a vehicle and dragged.

A female mother dog  who had small puppies was beaten by a man in Ambala, Haryana. The possibility of her survival is quite dim. Kindly go on the link below to see the plight of the dog and her small puppies.
