An Indian english film 'A Decent Arrangement' starring one of most popular and internationally acclaimed Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi has some very disturbing statements  regarding the street dogs of India. It's an old film released in the year 2011. It was certified by the censor board of India in the year 2014. It's really a pity that neither the film maker, cast and crew nor our censor board found anything objectionable in the film. Probably for them the irresponsible statements made for the stray dogs was only made for fun. To make their audience laugh. What they didn't realize is that they were poisoning the minds of the people towards stray dogs and  encouraging them to beat them.

The movie has been shot in Chandigarh which is one of the most beautiful and planned city of India. It is the capital of two states of India: Haryana and Punjab. The movie is for a duration of one hour, thirty three minutes and fifty three seconds (1:33:53). It has been written, directed and produced by Sarovar Banks.

There is a small clip in the movie for few seconds (22:57-23:15) where the hero who is an American of Indian origin is going out for a run. To that the Indian host laughingly says

"we always run when we are chased after. Make sure you take a stick. Your Grandfather always took a walking stick. If the street dogs attack, you can beat them down with it".

The Hero thereafter runs with a stick in his hand.

Later in the movie for about few seconds (1:16:23-1:16:46) the father of the hero joins him. The hero's parents are Indians but now settled in America. The father along with his son go out for a walk and then he tells his son

" I see you brought the stick. Your Grandfather told me to always bring this when I was walking. You know why?"

On that the son says

" I do actually they told me the same thing".

The father then says

" I haven't been chased by a street dog but if it comes I will smack it down with this powerful stick"

It seems the cast, crew and the makers of the movie including the Indian censor board were both unaware about the animal laws as well as the Indian breed dog. They are not aware the kind of impact this movie must have made on people of India especially people living in Haryana and Punjab. Films are a big influence on people and has the power to change the culture and traditions.

Anyway few more cases of cruelty have been reported in the last few days against street animals of India and I have deliberately taken only those cases which have taken place in Punjab and Haryana.

A couple (husband and wife) in Ambala, Haryana beat the dogs of their streets almost daily and harass the caregiver as well. The caregiver is scared. She fears not only for her dogs but also for her life. Kindly go on the link below to see how the man beats the dogs.

Movies and Media play a very important role in influencing the minds of the people. They have a larger reach hence their impact is also manifold.

Let's hope the censor board of India and the producer of the movie 'A Decent Arrangement' delete the two objectionable parts from the movie so that people do not smack street dogs with sticks. This is not only illegal but also cruel.
