We have seen in the past that many police officers sided with the culprits and refrained from lodging FIRs and arresting the guilty when it came to crime against the voiceless.

But today India is witnessing a new breed of officers who are honest, law abiding and kind hearted. They are compassionate towards animals especially the street dogs. They feed them and take care of them.

A lady police officer from Aurangabad, Maharashtra is a caregiver who feeds more than 20 dogs in and around her police station (pic in the post). She also takes care of their medical problems. To watch the dynamic and kind hearted officer kindly go on the link below:

Another police officer who is an ACP in the anti corruption bureau in Worli, Mumbai, feeds dogs in and around his police station. He says that food is the fundamental right of every animal and therefore he feeds the street animals atleast once a day. Also he says that any person indulging in animal cruelty should be severely punished.  But what saddens him is the fact that if he won't feed the dogs then most likely the dogs will go hungry because there is no one to replace him. This bitter truth bothers every caregiver of India. Sustainability is a very big problem. There are very few caregivers who on an average feed around 10 to 20 dogs daily. Some feed even more than 20. The problem is if God forbid something happens to them then who will feed their dogs? This question bothers all the caregivers of India.

Another police officer who is DCP in Faridabad, Haryana has done a commendable work in the area of animal welfare. He has tried to bring awareness amongst the common man residing in Faridabad. He with his team of dedicated people have divided areas and ensured that every street dog of every area is fed. They have installed water pots for the street animals. He is also trying to bring a change in the mindset of people especially the RWAs towards dogs. He was recently interviewed by News India where his exceptional work and dedication towards the voiceless was highlighted. To watch the interview kindly go on the link below:

Working in the police department is one of the most challenging and difficult jobs. Yet these good samaritans take time out from their busy schedule and feed their furry friends. Some like Dr Arpit Jain (DCP Faridabad) have gone a step further. He not only feeds the dogs of his area but is also ensuring that not a single dog of Faridabad sleeps empty stomach. Also through various social media platforms he is creating awareness and  sensitising people about street animals and urging them to be kind towards them.

A handful of caregivers cannot feed millions of street animals of India. There is a need of people's participation. Every indian has to contribute towards the welfare of these innocent and beautiful souls. Only then we can dream of making  India Atmanirbhar
