There are a lot of problems with Animal laws in India especially the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
There is complete ignorance about laws amongst the common man of India. They just don't know that cruelty towards dogs and other animals is a punishable offence.
Other problem is the implementation of these laws. The police does not take these laws seriously primarily because most of them do not know the laws themselves and even if they know, they are not convinced that it's worth the punishment. Hence, they are often seen siding with the culprits rather than the helpless animals and their caregivers.
And the most important is the penalties for the cruelty. It is merely Rs. 50. It's been more than 60 years now but the penalty amount is still Rs.50.
Imagine this is the importance our policy makers and our politicians have given to the animals and the animal laws in our country. This is so shameful.
The Bollywood Actor John Abraham has always come out in open and spoken for the man's best friends. He did that in March 2020 when the Mumbai Municipal Corporation had wrongly put hoardings saying dogs and cats spread Covid 19 to humans. The actor wrote to the corporation and got the hoardings removed.
This time again he has come to the aid of our furry friend and said that Rs. 50 penalty for any form of cruelty including killing a stray and a pet is too small an amount. According to him this penalty should be increased to a minimum of 3 months imprisonment or at least Rs. 50,000 penalty and accordingly the punishment may be increased according to the intensity of the cruelty.

John Abraham is not only a brilliant actor who has given some of the finest movies to the Indian Cinema but is also a wonderful human being. Wish more actors were like him. He is indeed a real life HERO.
