We have witnessed lately how horrifying the situation of dogs and caregivers in India is. People killing dogs with rods, burning them alive, throwing acid on them and even human urine.
A horrifying incident which took place on 14th May 2020 has shaken us all once again.
People of Mandsaur in the state of Madhya Pradesh killed a female dog who had delivered babies (pic in the post) They beat her to death and all her newly born puppies were poisoned. The pic clearly shows how mal nutritioned the mother was. She and her pups would have anyway died of starvation and sickness. Then why kill them in such a brutal manner? According to the reporter the people of Mandsaur have been on a killing spree. They have been killing dogs for quite sometime and even the employees of Mandsaur Municipal Corporation have been aiding the killers. Just few weeks back the Mandsaur municipal corporation employees killed a dog because of COVID 19 fear. This is nothing but state sponsored terrorism against the man's best friend. Unfortunately majority of the municipal corporation across India are responsible for this kind of terrorism. They poison the minds of people and create fear in their minds. We have seen that happen in East Delhi where the corporation has been doing that for last three years. Creating fear for dogs due to rabies.

Will the dog get justice? The chances are quite bleak because if the municipal corporation and the govt authorities are aiding and supporting the killing of dogs in Mandsaur then who will give the dog and her babies justice.
In another incident which took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat a man killed a dog with an air gun just because the dog used to sit on the roof of his car. Although this platform is for highlighting dog cruelty in India but I am forced to say that India is now becoming a hub for man cruelty as well. Where men are lynched and killed in broad day light by men. They are beaten with rods, burnt alive and beaten with hands and feet till they are dead.
A crime is a crime. No crime is big or small and no crime should go unpunished. If our police department and the law enforcement agencies understood this basic law then no dog would have died and no man would have died a death so gory and so cruel.
We have been witnessing dogs dying a cruel death almost daily and the reasons for their death are very clear which are summarised as points given below:
1 Dog laws 2001 which talks about ABC programme, rabies vaccination and restricts removal of dogs from their birth place is greek and latin to most of the Indians. People living in big cities like Mumbai and Delhi are not aware of it. Hence they relocate the dogs and even kill them to control their population and to eradicate rabies.
2 Complete ignorance about the prevention of cruelty to animals act which talks about cruelty to dogs a punishable offence.In my knowledge schools and colleges do not teach this important law anywhere in India. If it is being taught then kindly let us know.
3 The law enforcement agencies like the police too are mostly unaware about this law. Many times policemen are seen killing and beating dogs and during cruelty cases they are often seen siding with the criminals. They give no protection to the dog nor to the caregiver.
4 Municipal corporations who are the legal custodians of stray dogs in India are the real culprits behind the misery of dogs and the caregivers of India. There are very few who are carrying out the ABC programme and majority are not carrying it out. Hence dog population is growing in India. And the way the ABC programmes are being carried out its quite faulty and full of loopholes. Unless that is corrected the man's best friend and the caregiver will always live in fear.
