There is not a single state in India which is free from dog cruelty.
The state of Punjab is now in news for worse kind of dog cruelty.
There are people in this state who hold dog fight tournaments and make money out of it. Watch the entire report and the height of cruelty on the link below:

In another incident which has surfaced lately a dog has been beaten badly then dragged on the streets with his neck tied to an auto rickshaw. If that was not enough the monsters smashed him to the ground from the terrace.

Has anyone ever wondered why so much cruelty towards dogs in India?
Well the simple reason is most of the Indian politicians do not have dogs as pets and few who have, they have the pedigree breed.
A daughter of an ex Chief minister of Punjab filed a case against the central govt just because she was not allowed to import a foreign breed dog. There are homeless Indian dogs starving on the streets of India but she never found them cute.
Did she try to find out as to why a law in India has been made to stop import of dogs? Instead of abiding by the law she challenged it. Dog breeders in India import dogs and then make money from their misery. It's shameful that Indians can stoop to such low levels. It was in this light that the govt has banned importing of dogs.
Such are our politicians and their children. Then what can we expect of a common citizen of India. Politicians act as role models and have the ability to influence and change the mindset of the people by their mannerism and habits.
Unfortunately Indians still don't know how to love dogs. They buy foreign breed dogs for status and many times they abandon them once they are old and sick.
We need good hearted politicians who should adopt stray dogs and keep them as pets. Only then we can see the common man of India adopting the Indian breed as pets.
