Lucknow the capital city of Uttar Pradesh should get an award for making the most mindless and absurd registration policies for the pet dogs.
Here are some of the highlights:
1 They have classified dogs into three categories:
Big and medium dogs like doberman and Labrador. Their registration fee is Rs 500
Small dogs like Spitz and Pomeranian. Their registration fee is Rs. 300
The Indian breed dog (who were once stray and now adopted). Their registration fee is RS. 200
2 The registration fee has to be paid every year failing which the dog would be taken away and shall be released only once the owner pays the fee and the penalty.
They have specially made crackdown teams to check on defaulters and law breakers. They collected a total of 600000 rupess last year and this year they are targeting 100,000.
Nothing can be more mindless than this registration policy. These people are classifying dogs. And charging different rates for different breeds. The Indian dog is the cheapest with only ,Rs. 200. The corporation has officially announced that the Indian breed dog is the most inferior breed of all the other breeds. or they charged the lowest registration fee thinking that it will encourage people of Lucknow to adopt the Indian dogs from the streets of Lucknow. Well if that is what they think then the answer is no. The city of Lucknow is no different to Delhi or Ghaziabad. They too have stray dogs (Indian dogs) many times more than the pet dogs and there are hardly any takers of the Indian dog. People are not ready to take them for free. Who will take them for a registration fee of Rs. 200 that too every year?
The Lucknow corporation has made crackdown teams who are visiting residences and checking for defaulters. Roping in the dogs and keeping it in the shelter till the owner makes the registration and pays the penalty. The corporation is very happy about their most recent move in setting up good and strict system.
Now how on Earth will this system increase and encourage people to keep pet dogs and that too an Indian breed dog.
There are people in the city who know nothing about stray dog laws and the ABC programme. It would have been more befitting had the corporation made counselling teams who would visit each locality and educate people about the ABC programme, dog behaviour and how they could make their area canine rabies free.
It seems the Lucknow municipal corporation has found a new source for getting rich. Because the dogs of the city are not being positively affected by this most absurd and inhuman policy.
Such policies can never encourage dog adoption. Rather it is a deterrent.
Please watch this very and recent video and see how the caregivers are treated and how people who poison street puppies and beat the dogs are hailed and pardoned by the government machinery just because they are retired govt officials.

Shame on such government officials and shame on such a system
Chief minister Uttar Pradesh kindly abolish such Draconian registration system for pet dogs. Both in Lucknow and Ghaziabad. This policy will only fetch you money that too for few years and will discourage pet keeping which is already quite low in India.
Today the lucknow corporation is collecting100,000 rupees but 5 years down they won't find any pet owner or pets. The city iswill be devoid of dogs. The street dogs will never make it to the homes as pets and many pets would get abandoned. And they will all perish on the streets of lucknow without food, water and love.
