Our family suffered the tragic loss of our beautiful golden doodle Bentley while in the care of a local kennel.  The official cause of death was a severed spleen caused from blunt trauma. We want to prevent this from ever happening again and feel there needs to be changes made to the Pet Establishment Regulation. As of June 1, 2010 if you own or operate a pet establishment in New Brunswick you are required to obtain a licence under this regulation. However there are serious considerations for safe kennelling that do not currently exist in this regulation. We want to change that. I know that this Regulation is up for review so now is the time to act. We want the Regulation to mandate safe staff-to-dog ratios and also mandate certified dog handling training for all staff. I believe this would make a significant impact on keeping our pets safe while in the care of a kennel AND help prevent any other family from suffering the terrible grief and shock of losing their fur baby in such a violent way. I will be participating in a stakeholders meeting and would like to present this petition in an attempt to help bring about change in memory of our much loved Bentley.
