When I started this petition, I was 17 and now I am 18, of which had happened between then and now. I had a local election yesterday, which I felt could tie into this petition. I have learned in government classes that local elections tend to have a lesser turnout than state or federal elections. This may be for federal elections but it might still raise turnout for lower elections (it might not but no way to know if it hasn't ever been a federal holiday). I find making election day a federal holiday could possibly promote any turnout. I feel like election day being a federal holiday could possibly promote some teaching in school in order to encourage students to vote when they are of age. I would try to vote in any election I could from now on. The election I just voted in was for the school and fire department. Both could be important locally. I know the school was 52% yes to 48% no for zero mil increase in order for increased funding of the school (which means our taxes won't go up either way but since a majority voted for yes that I was a part of, there will be an increase in the funding for the school. probably why it was so close is that some people might think taxes will be raised). I find a personal story of mine could be beneficial for motivation.
