The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Stayner, request that the Town implement a bylaw requiring heavy transport trucks to utilize Highway 96 (the bypass) instead of traveling through our downtown core.

Why This Matters
Our downtown strip should be a vibrant, safe, and enjoyable space for families, seniors, visitors, and local businesses. Currently, the heavy volume of large transport trucks passing through the heart of Stayner compromises our community's quality of life.

Safety Risks: High-tonnage trucks create hazardous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists—making everyday activities, like a family walk or kids biking to get ice cream, feel unsafe.
Environmental & Property Impact: The continuous flow of heavy traffic generates excessive noise, dust, pollution, and ground vibrations that impact local storefronts and homes.
Economic Impact: A less walkable downtown discourages people from stopping, shopping, and supporting our fantastic local businesses.

The Solution
We love our town and want to see it thrive. Other Ontario municipalities (like Cambridge and Beamsville) have successfully redirected heavy truck traffic to protect their historic downtowns. By rerouting heavy transport trucks to Highway 96, we can balance regional transportation needs with the safety and well-being of Stayner's residents.

By signing this petition, we urge Council to initiate a traffic study and public consultation to transition heavy truck traffic away from our downtown core.
