On 15th October 2022 around 8 dogs living in and around the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, New Delhi were illegally picked up by the MCD and and dumped at the Bela Road centre

The dogs were picked up on the request of Vedanta a Mumbai based company which organized the half marathon on 16th Oct 2022

As per Dog rules 2001 the stray dogs who are already sterilized cannot be picked up by anybody including the MCD, but MCD the custodian of stray dogs has no respect for law, it has been flouting this law and been illegally picking up dogs on some pretext or the other and dumping them elsewhere

This time Mala the caregiver didn't let this happen and exposed the corrupt officials for whom dogs are nothing but a piece of garbage which needs to be picked up in the most ruthless and cruel manner and dumped at a centre which is equally insensitive and apathetic

Mala took the help of PFA Trustee Ambika Shukla in getting her dogs traced

The dogs were dropped  back on 18th October 2022 and many if them injured

One of them was so badly injured and traumatized that he hid himself for three days and when he came out to eat most probably due to unbearable hunger Mala was shocked to see him

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi uses wires to catch the dogs, which is both painful and traumatizing for the dog

Most of the time the dog gets hurt and in this case too the dogs were hurt

Anyhow the good news is that Ambika Shukla conveyed this information to Vedanta and then the General Manager of Vedanta wrote a letter to the deputy commissioner, MCD (central zone) saying that they didn't intend any harm or injury to the dogs and in future they would not like the dogs to be picked from the stadium

Also they have told Ambika Shukla that they will bear all the costs of treatment for the injured dogs

This is indeed a noble and a responsible gesture by Vedanta

But the million dollar question is that when the Dog Rules 2001 clearly states that a sterilized dog cannot be removed or picked up by anyone including the municipal corporation then why did the corporation entertain the request of Vedanta for getting the dogs removed?

Also why is the corporation using wire catchers to pick up dogs

Every dog of India is not as lucky as the ones at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium because they don't have caregivers like Mala to take care of them

Those unfortunate ones often succumb to their injuries, the injuries which are inflicted upon them by their own custodians the Municipal corporations

These are the same corporations who plead innocent and blame the caregiver, feeders and animal rights activists for causing obstruction in the smooth functioning of the ABC program
