On 15th October 2022 on the request of Vedanta a Mumbai based company who organized half marathon at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium New Delhi, 8 sterilized dogs were illegally removed by the Delhi Municipal Corporation. Mala the caregiver who feeds the dogs of the stadium reported the matter to the MCD officials when she found eight dogs missing. The dogs were dumped at the Bela Road centre of the MCD. Today even after the marathon got over the dogs were not brought back. Mala was told that because it's a Sunday so the MCD will not run its van. The dogs shall be dropped only on Monday. Mala is absolutely heartbroken and fears for the safety of the dogs. They were docile and quite friendly dogs but now they must be all in trauma. Yesterday they had not eaten anything and today God knows how they must be. The letter given by the Vedanta manager to the MCD said that dogs are a menace therfore they should be removed from the stadium.

According to Mala in the past our Prime Minister and sports minister have come to the stadium and none asked for the removal of dogs then how come suddenly the dogs have become a threat to the organizers Vedanta  and why did the MCD flout dog rules 2001? When the rule clearly says that sterilized dogs need not to picked then why were they picked? Mala went today after the marathon got over and all.she saw was human menace

Case update on 17th Oct 2022

After a lot of phone calls made by Mala the dogs were ultimately released back to the stadium by the MCD officials. But the dogs had sustained injury on their jaws because of pick up which is done in a very cruel fashion by wires. Also along with these dogs there were few new dogs which were dropped. They did not belong to the stadium area. This only shows how negligent and irresponsible the MCD catchers are. Relocation is a crime but for the MCD picking up dogs from one location and dropping them at another location is a normal practice.

Another incident of illegal pick up of  sterilized dogs by the MCD has been reported opposite  Bhairon marg. On the road adjacent to Pragati Maidan (from craft museum to science museum). The caregiver Renu who feeds the dogs of the area said that about a week back the MCD people had picked up dogs from there and yesterday they picked up the remaining too. She has been trying to contact the MCD officials as she is absolutely unaware where the dogs have been sent.

Why are dogs rules 2001 being flouted so blatantly? If in the capital of India the laws are being taken for granted and misused then what must be the condition of dogs and dog laws in other parts of the country.

Entrusting the ABC program and making the municipal corporations the custodians of stray dogs was the biggest mistake of our policy makers. The result is right in front of us.

It is the municipal corporations who have spit venom for the dogs. Portrayed them at rabid and wild to the masses

It is the municipal corporation who illegally picks up sterilized dogs and dumps them. Portraying them as menace to the society. As if they are a piece of garbage which should be hidden from the guests or are a threat to the lives of the guest so better be put in cages till the program is over and the guests gone.

How shameful and rabid minded our municipal corporations are.........
