I was driving down Crews Hole Road and Conham Hill today and found myself thinking about the suitability of this road... Is it still fit for purpose with the current traffic load?
Since the controversial Bristol Liveable Neighbourhoods scheme was imposed across East Bristol, traffic has increased on this very narrow road. This increased strain on an already tiny little road along with years of increasingly severe weather and council negligence has meant that the road surface has become some of the worst seen across the area.
Crews Hole Road is governed by Bristol Council and it is clear to see the difference as you round the corner at Conham River Park up to Conham Hill and onto the area that is governed by South Gloucestershire Council. Although by no means perfect, Bristol Council have made many efforts to make Crews Hole Road more safe for motorists and residents by resurfacing the road, improving road markings, etc. Whereas Conham Hill has been left to ruin by South Gloucestershire Council under the mistaken belief that this road is not their responsibility (a quick ordnance survey check confirms that it is indeed within their remit). Some local residents have also told me that Hanham generally feels like a forgotten part of the county.
The suitability of this road is being called into question here. Without proper road safety measures and a lift on the stagnant negligent attitude of the council, the road users and residents are being put at risk.
Keep sharing the petition so that we can bring light to this forgotten corner of the county and make this road safe for everyone.
