We contacted Nokia, Xplora, Bark, Pinwheel, Troomi and Gabb. 

Some of these companies engaged with us positively to find ways to launch in the UK. Some of them said they weren't interested. 

In 2022 Pinwheel told us: 

"While it would be nice if we could expand our reach someday, I'm afraid that would be very far into the future if we do consider expanding outside the US". 

Then, by surprise, Pinwheel launched in the UK on 19th November last year. 

HMD launched the Better Phone Project. They are carrying out a broad consultation and market research with parents, educators, researchers and a wide range of experts while developing an innovative product which they aim to release in the UK by July this year. HMD/Nokia also released the Barbie Phone in 2024. 

Several other entrepreneurs and founders have contacted us to let us know that they are working on products in this space. 

So, with the launch of Pinwheel and the Barbie Phone, as well as the Better Phone Project, we can claim victory and say that companies have now taken notice and child-safe phones have started to come out in the UK. We have also seen a wider awareness and use of basic 'brick phones' for children and young people as well as childrens 'smart' watches. 

Lets hope more and better safe products for children and their families continue to become available at affordable prices.
