I started this petition because I believe making basic phones that are designed for kids available in the UK will encourage more parents to delay smartphones.

Over 50 people have now signed-up in the first week. Lets try and share this as much as possible to send a message to companies to give us safe phones for kids. 

Smartphones provide unsupervised internet access. Even with the best parental controls there is no way to turn off WiFi on a smartphone. Even if you block them from your router they could potentially use a WiFi connection when they are elsewhere.  If you block all social apps, then why give them a smartphone at all? Social media apps cannot be made safe or suitable for children because by design they are addictive and allow people to connect and share user-generated material.

I set up Kids For Now to help parents choose to delay smartphones.
