Dear supporters and friends,
On Tuesday, International Day of the Midwife, I had the immense pleasure of delivering the petition for safer midwives' working hours to 10 Downing Street. Every one of your signatures, every cry for a safer maternity system - they've all reached the very heart of our government.
I was accompanied by a team of wonderful people: Anna Byrom, a midwifery lecturer and CEO of All4Maternity; Gillian Meldrum, a retired midwife and now steering group member of the Association for Radical Midwives; and Safia Saad, a student who has been active in pushing the government to create more jobs for newly qualified midwives. Together, we stand for a better service - one that protects staff and service users by placing a role-specific, legally enforceable cap on midwives' working hours.
I can't thank you enough for helping this petition make such an impact. Our work isn't done, though. We're nearly at 75,000 signatures, and we need to keep going until this government promises real change. Please keep sharing the petition and standing up for what we know is right.
With all my gratitude and best wishes,
Leah Hazard
