I'm writing this update at my kitchen table, where I just finished watching the Professor's new video. Did you catch it?

30th Anniversary Edition isn't for You

The kitchen table is where I started playing Magic. Unlike some of you who may have started in the early days, I didn't get in until 8th Edition. I picked up the Core Set--the one with the gold and silver decks and the comic book--and sat down with my wife to learn how to play. Surprisingly, she enjoyed it as much as I did, and we've been playing around our kitchen table ever since. Eventually, we started playing some events at local game stores, but the majority of Magic we play is still around our kitchen table.

Around this kitchen table is where I expected I would enjoy drafting with my family and friends during this 30th anniversary year of Magic: The Gathering. Don't get me wrong--we'll still draft over this coming year, but it won't be as exciting as it could have been had 30th Anniversary Edition had been printed like any other set (even allowing for the non-tournament legal card back), packed 36 boosters to a box, and sold that your local game store for a reasonable price.

Unless something changes, that's not going to happen.

That's why we can't give up now.
