Tuesday's Seattle Redistricting Commission meeting left us with more questions than answers and continued frustration that the Commission is ignoring the hundreds of Magnolia Community members and supporters that have made their voice heard to keep Magnolia whole. As of Tuesday (10/26) afternoon we have gathered 828 signatures on our petition and hundreds of public comments in support of keeping Magnolia whole. It is truly overwhelming to see our community come together and fight to remain whole.
Unfortunately, the fight to keep Magnolia together is not over. At the 10/25 Seattle Redistricting Commission meeting, revisions to the current Amended Draft Map (voted on during the 10/18 meeting) were discussed. Three revised maps were proposed. Both Commissioner Nickel's Map and the Discussion Map, Commissioner O’Sullivan is sponsoring keep Magnolia whole. Commissioner Juarez's proposed Discussion Map still harms Magnolia by splitting our neighborhood.
Next Steps:
- The Commission is asking for public feedback on the proposed revisions, this gives us another opportunity to send in comments to support the Nickels or O'Sullivan maps that keep Magnolia whole. Even if you have previously submitted comments, please do so again!
- 10/31 the Seattle Redistricting Commission will meet 12-1:30PM. Consider joining in person or online in support of keeping Magnolia whole.
- 11/8 the Commission will vote on their final map, and the public comment period will remain open until the Commission files the final district plan on or before November 15, 2022.
