I am writing to you in response to the e-mail you sent to the Mayor’s Office of Madrid denouncing the situation of mistreatment suffered by dogs by the food industry in the city of Seoul in order to use their meat for human consumption.
First of all, the Madrid City Council would like to express our most absolute and categorical rejection of any practice of animal mistreatment.
Making clear the position of the Madrid City Council of profound condemnation of the mistreatment of dogs by the meat industry, we also wish to point out that the bilateral relations that unite the city of Seoul and our city of Madrid were concretised in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the strengthening of cooperation and friendly exchanges, signed by our Mayor, Mr. José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and the Mayor of the Korean capital, Mr. Oh-Se-hoon, on 26 October 2022.
The aforementioned agreement establishes that the areas of cooperation and exchange of experiences between both City Councils are as follows:
1. Institutional exchange.
2. Culture and tourism.
3. Economic cooperation.
4. Infrastructure Development.
5. Urban Planning.
In addition to these thematic areas, the transfer of knowledge and best practices related to digitalisation and innovation is frequent. All these areas of development serve to improve the quality of life of our citizens.
Finally, we would like to inform you that this City Council will forward your complaint to the competent Korean authorities.
