Help save several Stafford businesses from ruin by calling for Kingsmead car park to open.
The Issue
WE NEED YOUR HELP! WE NEED KINGSMEAD!
Owing to their nearest (recently-redeveloped) car park remaining closed, a number of Stafford businesses are facing potential ruin this Christmas. They need your help to get the car park open asap.
Stafford's Salter Street, Eastgate Street and North Walls are home to a wide range of businesses, many of them independent. They include a toy shop, hotel, coffee shop, pub, charity shop, hair salon, convenience store, estate agents, sports bar, comic book shop, osteopath and pub, to name but a few.
Until recently there were plenty of people passing through the area, as they had parked in the nearby car park previously known as North Walls. This piece of land, between Queensway and North Walls, has recently been redeveloped as a retail site now known as Kingsmead. Morrisons was due to open a supermarket there, but has now pulled out. The retail site remains closed - as does the brand new and urgently-needed car park.
As a direct result of the Kingsmead car park remaining closed, many small businesses in the North Walls area are seeing catastrophic drops in trade, with some reporting takings down as much as 60%. Unless the new car park on the Kingsmead site opens immediately, bringing much-needed shoppers to the area, several businesses in the North walls area may be forced to relocate premises or even close down altogether.
To make matters even more urgent, Christmas is coming and for many of the businesses, if they miss out on their essential festive trade, it could be the difference between surviving and having to shut up shop for good.
With an alarming number of Stafford’s retail spaces already empty, it would be a terrible shame if even more businesses were forced to close, making the county town a much less attractive destination for shoppers, as well as companies looking to invest in the area. It would also be in the best interests of the shops planning to open in the new Kingsmead retail spaces if the area maintains a healthy and attractive business environment.
Stafford Borough Council is ready and willing to operate the car park - all that is needed is for Triple Jersey, the private company that now owns the site, to agree to the deal.
We need your help!
Please add your name to this petition - every signature counts - and please leave a polite, positive and constructive message to let LXB and Triple Jersey know why you feel they should open Kingsmead car park right away.
Thank you for your support!
