Former President George Herbert Walker Bush died on this day in 2018 at the age of 94. He served as president from 1989 to 1993. He was vice president under Ronald Regan from 1981 to 1989. He was the last sitting vice president to win election as president. Bush is the father of George W. Bush who served from 2001 to 2009. H.W. Bush also served in the navy during WWII. 

Today is also Winston Churchill’s birthday. He is a British politician rather than a U.S. politician but he could be tied to U.S. history. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War II. We sent the U.K. supplies before we officially entered World War II after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which we declared war on Japan the day after and Germany and Italy declaring war on us the day after that.
