Petition updateLower property size restrictions for keeping chickensWest Leechburg Borough Meeting July 9th 2025

Hello neighbors!

I attended our borough council meeting this evening, accompanied by some supporters. The council is to review my amended changes. I have presented the following:

  1. Full repeal of the 150-foot setback and property size requirements, replacing them with a more modern and flexible policy that:
Allows up to six hens (no roosters) on residential properties, no minimum property size requirements, but enforcing a permit policy, and includes basic coop maintenance and nuisance prevention rules.
  2. Revision at a minimum, reducing the existing setback requirement from 150 feet to no more than 20 feet, and allowing chicken keeping on smaller lots, such as those under 1/4 acre. Allows up to six hens (no roosters) on residential properties, and includes basic coop maintenance and nuisance prevention rules.

I need the continued support from my community members, as well as all other communities. Please help me push for modern ordinance updates in West Leechburg. These may seem like "just chickens" to some people, but they are a huge part of my family. My 6-year-old son misses them dearly and asks every day when his "baby girls" are coming back home.
