No Mega Schools in LMSD

We the undersigned oppose Lower Merion School Board’s plans to expand the school building at Penn Wynne Elementary or any other elementary school building in the district.

Per LMSD’s presentation in May 2017, all of our elementary schools are overcrowded. Expanding existing school buildings repeats past approaches, which proved to be costly and inadequate “band aids.” Warehousing our children in large, impersonal mega-schools is not the answer. Small schools improve teaching conditions and academic performance, preserve play space, and reduce traffic congestion.

We appeal to the Lower Merion School Board to produce a promised comprehensive plan that addresses district-wide overcrowding and enrollment challenges. We also ask the Lower Merion School Board to significantly accelerate the search for a property on which to build a new facility.
