PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT AS THE MAX GRUVER ACT MOVES TO THE SENATE FOR CONSIDERATION.
Our son, Max Gruver, was killed on September 14, 2017 due to an alcohol hazing "Bible Study" at Phi Delta Theta fraternity house at LSU. He was forced to drink copious amounts of 190 proof grain alcohol if he missed questions asked to him by his "brothers". Max died from alcohol intoxication with aspiration. Max was 29 days into his freshman year.
Max was a gentle giant, a good kid. He was friendly with everyone and never met a stranger. He loved his family, his friends and his community. He was a devout catholic, a sports writer, a little league coach, his sister's basketball coach and just an all around nice person.
Please help us support Louisiana State Representative Nancy Landry and her bill to strengthen hazing penalties in Louisiana. Currently hazing charges are a misdemeanor with barely a $100 fine and 30 days in jail, hardly a slap on the wrist for the death of our son. With strengthening the law, hazing can be considered a felony charge with a fine up to $10,000 and up to 5 years in jail.
Strengthening of the law will create awareness and act as a deterrent to make young adults consider their actions before they commit the crime of hazing. It will also prompt others to step in and take action before a situation goes wrong.
It could save a life.... it could have saved Max's.
