Dear fellow LACMA Lover,

Thank you for joining almost 2850 concerned citizens who have signed the petition urging the Los Angeles County Supervisors to reconsider their approval of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for LACMA's redevelopment plan.

Today, the Los Angeles Times published two lengthy pieces that chip away from different sides at LACMA’s redevelopment scheme, both for its aesthetic short-sightedness in refusing to engage with the historical campus buildings, and for the grave funding risk that the project poses for the very survival of the museum.

While the museum’s representatives attempt to defend their plan, however unconvincingly, it’s telling that the Los Angeles County Supervisor who was so eager to pose for photos with Brad Pitt and give hundreds of millions of our tax dollars away is now not willing to make any comment at all.

Both pieces are worth reading, and if you’re moved by what you read, we hope you’ll consider following up with a letter to the editor.

• Commentary: LACMA caught the teardown bug. The architectural cure isn’t a bulldozer

• An examination of LACMA debt. Can the museum afford its Peter Zumthor-designed building?

Please keep sharing the petition link (http://chng.it/PBQw6hhzdX) with your friends who love LACMA and want it to remain at the heart of our city's culture and community. And stay tuned for updates as we have them.

Yours for Los Angeles,
Kim Cooper & Richard Schave
